Beige Boards. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. These Hixon lectures were given by Caltech's Department of Biology in Pasadena March to May 1950. "The Committee was moved to undertake these lectures by the very fact that there was so much question in the minds of many regarding the scientific status of psychoanalysis. If through this series the controversy over the status of psychoanalysis as a science can be partially clarified, perhaps some of the "sound and fury" surrounding psychoanalysis may be quieted and more dispassionate objective attitudes adopted." [Editor's Preface] The three major topics were Experimental Approaches to Psychoanalysis (Hilgard); Problems and Techniques of Psychoanalytic Validation and Progress (Kubie); and The Position of Psychoanalysis in Relation to the Biological and Social Sciences (the editor). 174 pages, with figures, References, and Index; plus x [10] pages prefatory matter. Boards are slightly grimed and show rubbing at upper and lower backstrap; text is strong and clean, but coloring to mid-margins.
