Slight wear & slight soiling to spine, covers & corners. ; Alexander Ansted (1859â"1948) , also known as William Alexander Ansted, was a British artist and engraver renown…ed for his detailed etchings and paintings. Born on March 1, 1859, in Guernsey, Channel Islands, he was the son of David Thomas Ansted and Augusta Dorothea Hackett Baillie. Initially trained as an engineer's draughtsman, Ansted transitioned to art and began exhibiting his works in the early 1880s. His first notable exhibitions were at the Ipswich Fine Art Club in 1882 and 1883, where he showcased both paintings and drawings. By the late 1880s, he had moved to London and exhibited at prestigious venues such as the Royal Academy. Ansted's artistic career flourished as he specialized in etchings of landscapes and architectural scenes. His works often captured the essence of rural England and historic sites, including pieces like East Lynn Valley, Devon. He lived in Dover during his later years, working as an artist, instructor, and poster writer. Married to Constance Greville Walsh in 1887, he had two children, Constance and David Alexander. Ansted passed away on April 25, 1948, at the age of 88, leaving behind a legacy of finely crafted artworks that continue to be admired for their historical and aesthetic significance. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall.
