The need to understand LULC change is essential for regional development and land use management towards sustainable development. To understand LULC change,…the different LULC categories and their spatial as well as temporal variability in Tiruchirappalli city in Tamil Nadu State has been studied over a period of six years (2007-2012), by analysing of Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS) images. An attempt was made to adopt Markov model for understanding LULC dynamics. The simulated LULC area of year 2011 was compared with the actual area interpreted from 2011 satellite image (CARTOSAT - 1) and the future LULC in the year 2015 was derived using a Markov model. The results showed that Markov model and Geospatial technology together are able to effectively capture the spatio-temporal trend in the landscape pattern associated with urbanization in this region.

La necessità di comprendere il cambiamento LULC è essenziale per lo sviluppo regionale e la gestione dell'uso del suolo verso lo svil…uppo sostenibile. Per comprendere il cambiamento LULC, le diverse categorie LULC e la loro variabilità spaziale e temporale nella città di Tiruchirappalli nello stato del Tamil Nadu sono state studiate su un periodo di sei anni (2007-2012), analizzando le immagini del satellite indiano di telerilevamento (IRS). Si è cercato di adottare il modello Markov per comprendere le dinamiche LULC. L'area LULC simulata dell'anno 2011 è stata confrontata con l'area reale interpretata dall'immagine satellitare del 2011 (CARTOSAT - 1) e il LULC futuro nell'anno 2015 è stato derivato utilizzando un modello di Markov. Um LULC-Veränderungen zu verstehen, wurden die verschiedenen LULC-Kategorien und ihre räumliche und zeitliche Variabilität in der Stadt Tiruchirappalli im Bundesstaat Tamil Nadu über einen Zeitraum von sechs Jahren (2007-2012) durch die Analyse von Bildern des indischen Fernerkundungssatelliten (IRS) untersucht. Es wurde versucht, ein Markov-Modell für das Verständnis der LULC-Dynamik zu verwenden. Die simulierte LULC-Fläche des Jahres 2011 wurde mit der tatsächlichen Fläche verglichen, die aus dem Satellitenbild von 2011 (CARTOSAT - 1) interpretiert wurde, und die künftige LULC im Jahr 2015 wurde mithilfe eines Markov-Modells abgeleitet.
