Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - From humble beginnings as a student of music in the Bronx to the founding of one of New York City's iconic performing arts organizations, Eve Queler ventured into the male-dominated world of orchestral conducting in the 1960s when there were few, if any, women in the field. She soon found herself invited to guest conduct orchestras and opera companies all over the world. With the Opera Orchestra of New York, she conducted over 100 highly praised, successful performances at the great Carnegie Hall to sold-out audiences and standing ovations. This is the story of her struggles and determination to enter the field, along with the accomplishments, support, and recognition she encountered along the way.…

Postkarte. Condizione: Gut. Januar 2013 verheiratet.[6] /// Standort Wimregal GAD-10.520 WITHIN THE EU: shipping only to GERMANY and AUSTRIA due to the new EPR regulations. Sprache: Englisch Gewicht in Gramm: 10.…

First edition of this memoir that chronicles Eve Queler's pioneering career as a conductor. Octavo, original publisher's cloth, illustarted with black and white photographs. Association copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, "Dear Ruth To a true opera lover! With great admiration for you remarkable achievements Warmest regards, Eve Queler." American lawyer and jurist, Ruth Bader Ginsburg served as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1993 until her death in 2020 and was responsible for some of the most eventful legal decisions of the past half-century. Nominated by President Bill Clinton in 1993 to replace retiring justice Byron White, Ginsburg became the first Jewish woman and the second woman to serve on the Court, after Sandra Day OâConnor. Ginsburg spent much of her legal career as an advocate for gender equality and womenâs rights, winning many arguments before the Supreme Court. During her tenure as associate justice of the Supreme Court, Ginsburg received attention for her fiery and passionate dissents that reflected liberal views of the law. She was popularly dubbed âthe Notorious R.B.G.â, a moniker she later embraced. She authored several important majority opinions related to gender discrimination, voting rights, and affirmative action in cases such as United States v. Virginia (1996) which struck down the Virginia Military Instituteâs male-only admissions policy as violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, Olmstead v. L.C. (1999) in which the Court ruled that mental illness is a form of disability covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and Friends of the Earth, Inc. v. Laidlaw Environmental Services, Inc. (2000) in which the Court held that residents have standing to seek fines for an industrial polluter that affected their interests and that is able to continue doing so. Fine in a fine dust jacket. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box by the Harcourt Bindery. In 'A View from the Podium', Eve Queler reflects on her groundbreaking career as a conductor, offering insights into the challenges and triumphs of breaking barriers in the male-dominated field of classical music. As the founder and longtime director of the Opera Orchestra of New York, Queler played a pivotal role in championing lesser-known operatic works and providing opportunities for emerging singers. Her memoir explores the intricacies of conducting, the artistic and logistical demands of opera performance, and the broader gender disparities within the classical music world. …
