It survived 40 editions, being used as late as 1730. An E…nglish translation by Richard Jonas was published in 1540, printed by Thomas Raynalde. This translation, entitled 'The Byrth of Mankynde' was the first book on the subject to be printed in English. There were three variant editions in 1513, for which no clear priority has been established. All were printed from different type by different printers. One is dated and the other two are not, One was reproduced in facsimile in 1910 at Munich and at Zurich, J. Stocker, 1977.' Original full leather, all edges gilt. Near Fine.

Äußerst seltene und frühe Ausgabe. *** 4°. Disbound. Fragment of 34 of 55 leaves only, all but two text woodcuts absent. Present are A2, A4, B1-4, C1, C3, G-K4, L1, L4, M1-4, N1-4 (of A-N4, O3). L1 and L4 in wrong order. Restored tears on 10 leaves, partly with slight loss of letters. Very rare and early edition of the gynecological classic.
