Johann von Mikulicz-Radecki (Radetzky) (1850-1905). He was among the most distinguished of Billroth's pupils and contributed much to cancer surgery. He was the first to use the electric oesophagoscope (see "Ueber Gastroskopie und Oesophagoskopie" 1881), and the first to make a plastic reconstruction of the oesophagus after the resection of its cervical portion for carcinoma. His "Die Krankheiten des Mundes" was so authoritative that it took 11 years for a second edition to be needed.
