Prima edizione
Soft cover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. Newsletter consisting of 4 mimeographed leaves measuring 11 x 8 1/2 inches (280 x 218 mm), first leaf with text on both sides, all leaves stapled. The Voice of Freedom Committee, chaired by the writer Dorothy Parker, was a left-wing group that fought the increasing anti-Communist hysteria of American broadcasting. This issue of the group's Voice of Freedom newsletter says major radio networks have failed to devote any coverage to "the world's biggest news story -- the story of America's cry for peace" and lists examples of peace groups being ignored. Another article chides television networks for "sexy children's entertainment." There's also an appeal from Rockwell Kent to submit art works for an exhibition on the influence of mass communications. Readers can also fill out a coupon to become a "Monitor" of radio broadcasts. This issue of Voice of Freedom appears to be rare. Although some half-dozen institutions hold copies of Voice of Freedom, we have been able to identify only one institution holding this particular issue: New York University. RARE. CONDITION: Horizontal fold across the four leaves for mailing. Pages toned, some edge wear and evidence of waterstaining. About Good.

Aggiungi al carrelloLeno (1824-94) was a printer, publisher, poet and editor, and a significant figure in nineteenth-century radicalism. In 1845, while a printer, he led a group of radical workers who started a Young Men's Improvement Society and circulated a manuscript newspaper entitled the 'Attempt'. He then became branch secretary of the local Chartists. In 1849 the 'Attempt' became a printed journal, the 'Uxbridge Pioneer'. In 1861 he was editor of the 'Poetic Magazine' and in 1881 of the 'Anti-tithe Journal'. He was the author of several collections of poetry, one of which - 'The Aftermath', 1892 - is prefaced by an autobiography. On one side each of three pieces of parchment, each roughly twenty-one inches by thirty-eight. In black ink with red borders. The lease is between 'The Reverend Charles Felton Smith of The Vicarage Crediton in the County of Devon Clerk and Edwin Augustus Smith of Blandford in the County of Dorset Gentleman of the first part William Vizard [1774-1859, Solicitor to Queen Caroline] and George Augustus Crowder both of Number 55 Lincolns Inn Fields in the County of Middlesex Gentlemen of the second part and John Bedford Leno of No. 7 Holywell Street Strand in the said County of Middlesex Publisher of the third part'. Condizione: Very Good. 8 pp. recto and verso, 177 x 154 mm, browning and fold creases. The manuscript is signed anonymously as "A Spectator," The assumption is that this manuscript is in Brown's hand. Paul Brown was a Philadelphia lawyer who was a member of the New Harmony Community. His essay, known in printed copies bearing his name, criticizes the tendency to elect wealthy people to office: "Aristocracy is that sort of government wherein a few rich men have the Supreme Authority . how comes it to be so predominate & prescriptive a fashion for people to make choice of rich and not poor individuals to represent them?" Adams, in Radical Literature in America, writes: "The author was an eccentric member of the New Harmony Community, who criticized Owen for not being sufficiently radical. This book contains an attack on private property, banks, rentand all other adjuncts of the capitalist system.".

Da: Locus Solus Rare Books (ABAA, ILAB), Los Angeles, CA, U.S.A.
Prima edizione
First edition. Four large folio leaves, approx. 17-1/2 X 22 in.; the additional poster somewhat larger. The complete set of three "Street Wall Journal" posters, issued in conjunction with the student strike at Columbia University in the spring of 1970, protesting the latest escalation of the Vietnam War and raising funds to aid in the defense of 21 members of the Black Panther Party facing conspiracy charges in New York. The posters mimic the look and format of the "Wall Street Journal" newspaper, and were meant to be posted around campus to inform sympathizers and raise awareness. Graphically striking, especially the third poster with its image of a shouting Panther raising a chained fist, each poster featured a banner headline: "Why We Strike", "Toward a General Strike", and "The Panthers: History as Repression.Repression as History". The fourth poster here is printed on two sides, one announcing the conference program, beginning June 15, 1970; the other side with four columns of text highlighting the range of grievances and summer protest actions at NYU. Some inconsequential wrinkles, a bit of offsetting at one edge; fine copies.
