Im Sommerfeldzug in Ungarn 1849 bewährte er sich als Generalstabschef Julius von Haynaus durch seine Dispositionen zur Einnahme von Raab (Györ) und zur Gewinnung der Theißlinie. Das Manuskript beschreibt in sechs Kapiteln 1) den Rückzug der k. k. österr. Armee von Magenta bis an die Chiese, 2) die Ereignisse vom 15. bis 22. Juni - weiterer Rückzug bis hinter den Mincio, 3) den Übergang der österr. Armee auf das rechte Ufer des Mincio am 23. Juni und 4) die Schlacht von Solferino am 24. Juni und hält 5) Betrachtungen sowie 6) das Resultat der Schlacht fest. - "Von Ramming ist nach dem Frieden von Zür[i]ch als Manuscript gedruckt ein 'Beitrag zur Schlacht bei Solferino' erschienen, worin nach dem Urtheile von Fachmännern der Gegenstand mit vollem Freimuthe behandelt ist, ein Umstand, der leichtbegreiflich Veranlassung zu mancherlei Reclamationen gab" (Wurzbach XXIV, S. 314).
