Es sollte die Straftäter resozialisieren. Wie in einem Labor versuchte man, die Ideale der sich demokratisierenden Bundesrepublik auch im Gefängnis zu vermitteln. Der Strafvollzug sollte liberalisiert werden, mit Arbeit und Ausbildung, Kunstaktionen und Sportveranstaltungen, Gruppentherapien und Wohngemeinschaften. Das Leben in Freiheit so weit wie möglich zu imitieren gelang aber nicht. Und so verläuft die Geschichte des Gefängnisses und des reformierten Strafvollzugs zwar parallel mit der Geschichte der Demokratisierung nach 1945 bis in die 1980er Jahre - und ist dennoch eine andere. Annelie Ramsbrock beschreibt diese Gesellschaft aus der Nahsicht und fragt am Ende, warum eine Resozialisierung im Sozialversuch Gefängnis nicht gelingen kann. 416 pp. Deutsch.
