Paperback. Condizione: Good. Faith Through Fire: Rwanda and Me is a classic love story set in the country of Rwanda before, during and after the 1994 Genocide. It is a true story based on the main character's experiences living out his beliefs and faith while pursuing the love of a young woman even as the society surrounding him crumbles. It is a compelling story that is beautifully told. If you are looking for a fresh love story, for inspiration or a way to challenge your faith then this story is a must read The world can be a pretty dark place at times. If you are looking for inspiration, encouragement, hope, or a way to challenge your faith then this story is a must read Much of the story takes place during one of the most intensive killing campaigns in the history of the world These are real people who, because of their love for one another and understanding of who God is, acted decisively and heroically, with actions that saved lives. After the Genocide they went back. At great price they went back. Even after the death of his beloved wife, the main character still went back. The world is in need of real stories of seemingly insignificant people from what seem like insignificant places who do extraordinary things by the power of love and faith in an extraordinary God. If you're not a person of faith, the story alone will grab you. If you are, you will be encouraged to stand strong even when things do not go the way you thought they should.…

Paperback. Condizione: Good. Randall Woods addresses the major themes characterizing the American experience from the close of World War II. Woods' accessible analysis of the Cold War and Civil Rights and Women's Rights movements, as well as other great changes that led to major realignments of American life, clarify postwar American history. Although this book emphasizes political history, it also covers cultural matters and socio-economic problems such as the growth of dramatic new patterns of immigration and migration, the development of the counterculture, television and the internet, the interstate highway system, rock and roll, and the exploration of space.…

Paperback. Condizione: Good. A concise narrative text aimed at the mid-level US history student. The format combines and synchronizes the concept of a textbook with that of a reader by linking a basic narrative text with articles that both support and build upon the text. This combined format enables students to relate interpretation to narrative and exposes them to historical analysis in a meaningful way. Readers of this work should cover the factual information as they learn how historians abstract meaning from the past.…

Hardback. Condizione: Very Good. President Lyndon Johnson's Great Society was breathtaking in its scope and dramatic in its impact. Over the course of his time in office, Johnson passed over one thousand pieces of legislation designed to address an extraordinary array of social issues. Poverty and racial injustice were foremost among them, but the Great Society included legislation on issues ranging from health care to immigration to education and environmental protection. But while the Great Society was undeniably ambitious, it was by no means perfect. In Prisoners of Hope, prize-winning historian Randall B. Woods presents the first comprehensive history of the Great Society, exploring both the breathtaking possibilities of visionary politics, as well as its limits. Soon after becoming president, Johnson achieved major legislative victories with the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the 1965 Voting Rights Act. But he wasn't prepared for the substantial backlash that ensued. Community Action Programs were painted as dangerously subversive, at worst a forum for minority criminals and at best a conduit through which the federal government and the inner city poor could bypass the existing power structure. Affirmative action was rife with controversy, and the War on Poverty was denounced by conservatives as the cause of civil disorder and disregard for the law. As opposition, first from white conservatives, but then also some liberals and African Americans, mounted, Johnson was forced to make a number of devastating concessions in order to secure the future of the Great Society. Even as many Americans benefited, millions were left disappointed, from suburban whites to the new anti-war left to African Americans. The Johnson administration's efforts to draw on aspects of the Great Society to build a viable society in South Vietnam ultimately failed, and as the war in Vietnam descended into quagmire, the president's credibility plummeted even further. A cautionary tale about the unintended consequences of even well-intentioned policy, Prisoners of Hope offers a nuanced portrait of America's most ambitious-and controversial-domestic policy agenda since the New Deal.…
