Chesterton Reprint Series, as per the jacket flap, this volume uniform with The Club of Queer Trades, The Man Who Knew Too Much, and Manalive. A very appealing Chesterton item, in a dandy format (5x7.5inches) with jacket art by William Randell. Scarce in this issue, and NOT an ex-library.

Hardcover. Condizione: Good Plus to Very Good. No Jacket. William Randell (illustratore). Maroon paper on boards. I misjudged this book completely. At first I thought it was intended for young readers, for the protagonist is only seven and the illustration simplistic. After a chapter I raised the reading level to "juvenile." Not long after that I was bothered by unfamiliar terms to the extent that I judged it not just "adult," but "advanced adult." By the time I finished reading this book I wondered why it took me so long to tumble. I hope this warning saves you similar embarrassment. A glossary would have been helpful. 144 pp. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.

There is a light trace of something written in pencil to the front free endpaper and there is an odour to the book - probably from a smoker's home - but the pages are otherwise unmarked.
