Limited Edition of 500 copies, this being no. 104. Quarto (12 1/2 x 8 in.). 24 ff., 28 explicit pochoir illustrations with extra suite in b&w. Half brown hand-grained morocco over marbled paper by M. Blin (stamp-signed), gilt-lettered spine, original wrappers preserved. Cocteau claimed that Radiguet (1903-1923), his one-time lover, could not have possibly written these verses (originally discovered in manuscript after Radiguet's death) celebrating the sexuality of teen-age girls, but after Cocteau's death Radiguet's family confirmned that René, indeed, wrote them. Renowned for his stylish verve, French Art Deco illustrator, designer, costumer, set decorator, graphic artist, and painter René Ranson (1891-1977) was a prolific book illustrator; he was celebrated and highly productive in all the arts he worked in. Included is a facsimile of Radiguet's poem, Fiancés de Treize Ans.Wrappers and title mod.-hvy. toned, a few leaves lightly so, otherwise an attactive, Very Good copy indeed of a book scarce in all editions. Pia 1385-86; Dutel III, 2594; Monod 9452.

Aggiungi al carrello28 erotic illustrations in colour with another suite of the illustrations in black. Fourth clandestine & unauthorised edition. Small folio, unpaginated, endpaper, 2 frontispieces, [1p.] text on verso, title, [28pp.], tirage, blank, largely loose bifolia with some single leaves, illustrations foliated in pencil, in the original folded paper wrapper with a colour illustration on the upper portion overprinted with titles printed in black, later glacine dustjacket, French text. Number 34 of 300 numbered copies. La Varenne, A la Corne d'Abondance, n.d., end of 1930s. £750.00 Apparently lacks the facsimile holograph of ?Fiance?s de treize ans' (from Pia). Endemic browning of paper where both suites meet in the book, wrapper slightly worn on head and tail of spine. A crisp clean copy. Very rare institutionally with seemingly one only on WorldCat: attributing the illustra tions to Rojan but rather they are in the style of. No copy in Dutel 2594, Pia 1501. Provenance: from the collections of Jean-Pierre Faur and Emmanuel Pierrat. A homage to the great Radiguet with images by a very ef- fective imitator (do see #172 & 173 in the Valentine Hugo section in this cata-logue for her tributes to Radiguet). Pia notes that everything is an imitation in this new edition of the then very young Radiguet's erotic paeans to sex with young women, from the illustrations (in the style of Rojan) to the imprint 'Varenne' and of course the clandestine pub- lisher's name ? the French for ?horn of plenty' that is illus- trated with a vignette of a horn full of lolling penises. For his note to the first, 1926 edition of this title issued by Rene Bonnel, Pia notes how the manuscript was retrieved from Miss Beatrix Hastings, real name Emily Alice Haigh, a lover of Radiguet. They were counterfeited over the objections of Cocteau, Bernard Grasset and Pe?re Radiguet. No one apparently knows why Cocteau objected but he was going through a bit of a Christian penitent phase. Long after, la famille Radiguet employed an Italian scholar to research his papers and they were canonised by being col- lected into an Italian edition of Radiguet's unpublished works. Pia also suggests that the use of ? Varenne' as an imprint evokes Radiguet's early life in the suburbs. 219476.
