Eliot's Notes towards the Definition of Culture, within a protected unclipped dust jacket. This is also slightly scruffy. But it has no damage, no annotations or underlinings. No bent corners either. It is very nearly Near Fine. Notes towards the Definition of Culture is T.S. Eliot's canonical essay on the culture of his time and place, and the notion of 'culture' itself. In this essay critiquing modern society, Eliot argues that culture must be organic, and cannot be planned or imposed. His chief aim is to persuade the reader to decide upon a meaning for the word 'culture' (and equally for the word 'civilisation') before they use it.
