Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. 1st Edition. Clean and tight, unread looking, hardback first edition of this RARE IN THE UK book. A little shop aged, but there is no evidence of it having been read. Ruefully wise, as is to be expected of this discursive and visionary writer. He is brilliant when writ…ing about Le Guin, or Heinlein and he is knowing and humorous; a rare combination. From the supernatural tales of Edgar Allen Poe to the utopian dreams and technological nightmares of H.G. Wells and Jules Verne, to today when it has become a multi-billion dollar global entertainment industry. While he highlights the genre s predictive successes, he emphasises its cultural role as both a lens and a medium for the very rapid changes driven by modern technology. Disch traces sci-fi s role in modern life and explains how it has become a cultural battlefield even helping us to adjust to new social realities. But Disch is also critical of the genre and sees its darker expression in the appearance of suicidal UFO cults. Behind the spaceships and aliens, Disch reveals the blueprints of the dizzying postmodern future we have already begun to inhabit. This is in a clean and tight cloth two colour binding, but it has one slight defect. This may be a production fault. It looks like a 'bumped' corner. Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Included. 1st Edition. First edition UK hardback, uncommon signed on the title page. Clean and tight, no owner marks, not ex library. Publisher should be ashamed for printing this fine novel on pulp paper. It is inevitably tanned. But ignore this production fault, for here is a scarc…e SIGNED copy, in a protected unclipped jacket. Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. 1st Edition. A scarce SIGNED hardback first edition in a collectable state. The publisher used cheap paper which means it is 'embrowned' but the text block is tight and looks unread. No owner marks or turned down corners. Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. 1st Edition. Unread looking first printing, although it looks slightly shelf worn. Vellum coloured paper mounted over cover boards with a gilt floral device, and a burgundy cloth quarter binding spine stamped in gilt. The unclipped jacket is protected and perfect. This… English issue was produced in America for Marion Boyars, so it is close to identical with the American issue. 622pp. The British hardback edition had a tiny print run, largely absorbed into the public library system. This copy is one of the few to escape that fate. It is a fabulous summing up of this wonderful writer's complete short story collection. Loosely enclosed is a beautiful review by Barry Unsworth. There is a discrete blind stamp and a neat name of a former owner on the half title. A handsome and very substantial book. Heavy, will need extra postage for an overseas order. Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. SIGNED by Maurice Sendak on the half title page. This is possibly the only copy of the UK hardback first edition. The jacket is clipped, and it has one small tear on the front, but this does not intrude on anything important. What is important, of course, is the artist's signature. This was obta…ined personally by me at Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Sendak worked on several productions there as designer.

Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. A rare pulp soft cover first edition, and in a highly collectable condition. No former owner names, no turned corners, tight binding, and with little sign of having been read. It has wonderful garish pulp cover art. Typically of Ace Books, the title varies from Raymond Chandler's o…riginal, which was The Simple Art Of Murder. It is a superb collection of short stories. Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. POSSIBLY the only signed copy of the UK first edition. This is signed on the title page. It is clean and tight and the jacket is protected. Two minor faults; there is a former owner's blind stamp, which is very neat, on the half title page, and t…he jacket is price clipped. But I must emphasise, this is a clean and tight first edition hardback SIGNED by the great poet. Signed by Author.

Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. Very rare UK hardback first printing of the first edition. Taking the age into consideration this is more accurately described as Near Fine. The protected jacket is neatly price clipped. The binding is still tight. The front end paper has a gift…inscription. The rare factor is the signature on the title page, which is in full, and with no dedication. I have never seen another UK first signed.
