Ambedkar überführte dabei seine Gemeinschaft keineswegs in eine vorgegebene Religion, sondern formte den in Indien fast ausgestorbenen Buddhismus zu einem Werkzeug des sozialen Wandels um. Die vorliegende Arbeit hat einen doppelten Fokus: Im Hinblick auf Ambedkar wird untersucht, ob bei seiner Wahl der neuen Religion die Belange der Frauen eine Rolle spielten und inwieweit er bei seiner Rekonstruktion des Buddhismus die Emanzipation der Frauen ebenso wie die der männlichen Dalit im Blick hatte. Dies geschieht im Teil II der Arbeit mittels der Analyse von Ambedkars Schriften 'The Rise and Fall of the Hindu Woman' und 'The Buddha and his Dhamma'. Teil I und III wenden sich den Dalit-Frauen zu. Zunächst werden in Teil I die Reden von Frauen auf der Mahar-Konferenz 1936 zum Thema Konversion untersucht. Inwieweit ordneten sie sich Ambedkars Führung unter, inwieweit entwickelten sie eigene Standpunkte Teil III kreist um die Frage, welche Wirkung der Buddhismus im Leben der konvertierten Dalit-Frauen entfalten und inwieweit die neue Religion ihre Emanzipation fördern kann - womit der Bogen in die Gegenwart geschlagen wird. Hat der Navayana-Buddhismus Ambedkarscher Prägung heute noch emanzipatorisches Potential, hat er der doppelten Unterdrückung als Dalit und als Frau etwas entgegenzusetzen.…
