The inscription reads: "March 2000, Dear Dr. Rees, Your influence on the field of Plastic Surgery of the face is indeed tremendous. Your influence on me has been profound and I want to thank you for that. Yours, (signed) Thomas Romo III." Cover is in Very Good condition (only lightly rubbed). Internally FINE. Square and tight. NOT a library discard. Pages are crisp, clean and unmarked. Bound in the original full color pictorial laminated boards. From his New York Times obituary: "Dr. Thomas D. Rees, an innovative New York plastic surgeon who helped found the Flying Doctors Service of East Africa, a charity that employs a fleet of small planes to provide medical care and save lives deep in the African bush, died on Nov. 14 at his home in Santa Fe, N.M. He was 86 New York magazine once referred to Dr. Rees as 'one of the fathers of aesthetic surgery in New York,' and he is credited with helping to elevate cosmetic surgery from something one did not really discuss to almost a status symbolÂ" From the American Association of Plastic Surgeons website: "Dr. Thomas D. Rees, 86, a giant in our great specialty of plastic surgery, died in the early evening of November 14, 2013 at his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His legacy will live on in the countless number of surgeons and patients he helped by sharing his knowledge and experience, and equally important to him, Flying Doctors of East Africa and the African Medical Research Foundation, which he founded along with Sir Archibald McIndoe and Dr. Michael Wood. Dr. Rees trained in general surgery and plastic surgery at Genesee Hospital in Rochester, New York followed by New York Hospital Cornell Medical Center on New York's Upper East Side. Upon finishing his plastic surgery residency, Dr. Rees was granted a Marks Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead, Sussex England under the tutelage of Sir Archibald McIndoe Dr. Rees was the Chairman of the Department of Plastic Surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital from 1975 to 1992. Under Dr. Rees' direction, the MEETH Plastic Surgery Department and Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship, which he began, became one of the leading aesthetic surgery services in the world. Dr. Rees was Professor of Plastic Surgery at New York University and an Attending Surgeon at the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, New York University. He was President of the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and a former Director and Vice Chairman of the American Board of Plastic Surgery."
