8°. 1827 (1826-1827). Erste Auflage, Titelblatt, S. 5-316 (fehlt wohl der Schmutztitel), Tafelanhang. Jahrgang 2 von 12 zwischen 1825 und 1836 erschienenen Jahrgängen. Marmorierter Halblederband der Zeit. Mit 24 altkolorierten Kupfertafeln (Originalkolorit). Leicht berieben; Lederecken etwas bestoßen und mit kleinen Bezugsfehlst…ellen; Deckelbezüge etwas beschabt; Vorsätze etwas leimschattig; gering stockfleckig; durchgehend Blattkanten seitlich und am Kopf etwas gebräunt - bei 2 Tafeln sind die Kanten stärker gebräunt (macht den Eindruck eines Brandschadens) und diese Tafeln hier auch mit kleinen Randausrissen (alles außerhalb der Abbildungen); alle Tafeln mittig mit Faltspur (wohl lieferungsbedingt); Name auf dem vorderen Innendeckel.

Nürnberg, C. H. Zeh, [1830]-1832. 8vo (19.1 x 12.1 cm). xxviii pp.; 60 hand-coloured plates with explanatory text leaves. Contemporary quarter calf over tree-calf resembling paper boards. Spine with gilt ornaments and tan morocco label with gilt title. Edges green. = The rare complete mammal-section of a rare series on the fauna… of Bavaria in southern Germany. The plates are larger than the text pages, as intended, and therefore mostly folded, as usual. Included are both the wild animals, for instance, several bats, and the domestic animals with, e.g., several dog breeds. This work should not be confused with neither the similarly titled later (1854) work by Gemminger and Fahrer, which only has 24 plates, nor by the earlier work by Paula von Schrank (1798-1803). Inscribed by a former private owner, dated 1912, on the front free endpaper recto. Some scattered spotting, mainly to the text leaves, otherwise clean. A very good copy. Together with the German zoologist and arachnologist Carl Wilhelm Hahn (1786-1835), Reider also wrote the Fauna Boica, oder gemeinnützige Naturgeschichte der Thi…ere Bayerns, which included an ichthyological part as well. The present work contains a large chapter with fish recipes. Uncut. Wrappers frayed at edges, spine cover chipped at edges; internally clean, unmarked. A very good copy.
