Swift's main purpose in using the satirical element in this book, as well as in most of his other works, is to '(.) vex the world rather than divert it (.)' (Swift 264) and thus to appeal to human's ability to change situations for the better. This believe derived from Swift's misanthropic worldview, not in the sense that he didn't have faith in human nature and had given up on any notion of ideals, but he rather, arisen out of disappointment in humankind, believed that man nevertheless was capable of reform. Swift himself laid bare his radically negative view of human beings in a letter to his friend Alexander Pope in 1725: 'I have ever hated all Nations professions and Communityes and all my love is towards individualls for instance I hate the tribe of Lawyers, but I love Councellor such a one (.) and the rest principally I hate and detest that animal called man, although I hartily love John, Peter, Thomas and so forth.' This theatre is designed to show attitudes in the sense of relationships between people, their connections to the environment and their roles in politics and society. Thus the human being is the focus, the object of inquiry of Brecht's plays, but not as an individual but as a social being which is shaped and changed through interactions with society through life. Furthermore each scene has its own value and is in itself determined through beginning and end. Therefore it is possible to connect only the most important scenes, one after another, whereas in a completed action, such as the case in dramatic theatre defined by Aristotle, one scene results out of another. In Brecht's plays the focus lies on the process of the story, on the how and why, rather than on the product and the ending, on the what. Combining these two main principles of Brechtian theatre, the human being and the process, the overall aim is to study the human being in the process of society, raising the question if changes can be made in order to alter present conditions.In order to achieve changes in society the spectators have to be made aware of situations that need to be changed. Brecht attains this purpose by evoking the spectator's astonishment with the support of the basic concepts of epic theatre, Verfremdung and Gestus and Haltung. A special emphasis has been placed on the way Austen portrays her characters' speech and thoughts. To her, dialogue is described as the most appropriate means in order to achieve a preferably close approach to reality. Due to the fact that Austen strived after combining a realistic depiction of her characters and their surroundings with psychological depth, she had to find gradations of the ordinary dialogue between the characters. Utterances could be regarded as important or less important, a character could appear more strongly than another in the course of the story or whole scenes could excel others in their prominence. In order to be able to illustrate the different emphasis and to present these contrasts comprehensibly to the reader, the dialogue in Pride and Prejudice is expanded with direct and indirect versions of speech. The same applies to the portrayal of characters' thoughts, which accounts for a dominant part of the novel. By alternating between the various possibilities to depict speech and thought, thus putting emphasis on certain situations, it was possible for Austen to insert her own views on specific circumstances and characters. Nevertheless, direct speech is the prevailing method to display the characters' utterances since it is the nearest and most dramatic manner. The vivacity of the characters' persona, their feelings and different tempers are perceptible through their dialogues and provide a narration that is as realistic as possible. In the following, the different versions of speech and thought presented will be analysed in terms of their occurrence in the novel, their importance and their meaning to the narrator and the reader, as well as exemplified on the basis of selected passages. Erschwert wird diese Analyse durch die Reizüberflutung, welcher der Rezipient auf Grund von auditiven und visuellen Elementen ausgesetzt wird. Grund für diese Komplexität, wie sie auch in 'Coffee & TV' vorzufinden ist, ist die Absicht des Regisseurs, den Zuschauer zum mehrmaligen Betrachten des Musikvideos zu bewegen. Dieses Ziel wird ebenso durch eine gewisse Unklarheit in der lyrics- story und/ oder Bild- story erreicht, wodurch der Rezipient gezwungen wird, das Video wiederholt zu betrachten, um Sinnzusammenhänge zu klären. Das große wissenschaftliche Interesse, welches Nachrichten heutzutage global zu Teil wird, begründet sich vordergründlich auf dem enormen Datenreichtum, der für Forschungs- und Lehrzwecke verwendet wird. Zudem wird an Hand von Nachrichtentexten und dem Gebrauch jener der tatsächliche Sprachgebrauch in einer Sprachengemeinschaft aufgezeigt, sowie der Einfluss, den Medien auf die Gesellschaft ausüben. Hierbei lassen sich ebenso verschiedene soziale Bedeutungen unterschiedlicher Textarten, wie beispielsweise ein politischer Text in The Times verglichen mit einer Darstellung einer prominenten Person in The Sun, als auch kulturelle und politische Unterschiede der Gesellschaftsschichten feststellen.Im englischen Sprachgebrauch wird der Begriff news story für Nachrichten verwendet, welcher darauf verweist, dass Nachrichten eine spezielle Form von stories bilden, und folglich von anderen Erzählarten differieren.Im Folgenden möchte ich neben der Untersuchung von Nachrichtenüberschriften die Struktur von Nachrichtentexten aus verschiedenen englischsprachigen Zeitungen an Hand von Ein- Satz- Artikeln analysieren. Diese Analyse erfordert jedoch eine ausführliche Erläuterung der Vorgehensweise und der Begriffe.
