In this book we have discussed the d…esigning of conventional up flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor with modifications of older design for the high efficiency of methane production as well as pollutant degradation capability during anaerobic digestion by treating with sponge bed of bacterial biofilm in the UASB reactors. Antibiotics are used irresponsibly at every opportunity to treat viral and even mild infections. Accordingly, antibiotics have been used in massive amounts in agriculture as a preventive provision against bacterial diseases and to promote the growth of animal feedstock such as poultry, beef and pigs, respectively. Therefore, antibiotics are disposed off through domestic wastewater and these antibiotics are accumulated in various environmental compartment including activated sludge of sewage treatment plant (STP).Thus, better knowledge and more information on the fate of antibiotics as well as the development and spread of antibiotic resistance bacteria and genes in 56 pp. Englisch.

In this study, transconjugants isolated by exogenous plasmid isolation in biparental mating indicates that genes for the tolerance of pesticides and metals/antibiotic resistance can be distributed by conjugative plasmids in the natural environment. Our results suggest that wastewater and soil at an industrial area near a pesticide industry contained certain genotoxic agents which are capable of inducing mutations. 140 pp. Englisch.

Al accumulates in all tissues of the mammals, including brain, liver, kidney, heart, blood and bone. Al is known to disrupt the various biochemical and physiological functions in humans. Bacopa monniera (Bm) is one of the miracle herb commonly grows in marshy areas throughout India. In the traditional Ayurvedic medicine it is used for treatment of ulcers, tumours, enlarged spleen, indigestion, inflammation, leprosy, anemia, epilepsy and asthma. Hence, the authors made an attempt to synthesize silver and gold nanoparticles by using Bacopa monniera.
