Despite lacking its FEP and frontispiece and having only half of the map present, the book has notes by D Leslie of Appleton - ornithologist and taxidermist who is referred to in the text - a fascinating copy!

Undated, published by Raphael Tuck & Sons circa 1904 this is a beautifully illustrated landscape format children's book printed on untearable linen, this is the author's account of a trip he made to the Holy Land, the author being The Rev. Canon Duckworth, D.D. Sub-Dean of Westminster, and Chaplain in Ordinary to the King, the book measures 13 inches by 9.5 inches approx., and is beautifully illustrated with colour chromolithographic illustrations, running to fourteen pages (all pictured) the covers are detached from the text block, and the two covers are virtually detached from each other only hanging together by a thread, some creasing wear to covers, ALL PAGES ARE PICTURED SO CONDITON AND CONTENT CAN BE SEEN,

James Edmund Harting's (1841-1928) copy with his coat of arms bookplate, and his annotations, corrections and notes to 11 pages, plus his insertions of related material (bird sightings) including a typed, corrected, proof (corrections in Harting's hand) of the scholarly, four page article which featured in The Zoologist (June 1886) reviewing this publication. Original blue cloth boards in nr. fine condition. A superb copy. Harting was editor of The Zoologist from 1877 to 1896. Whilst the book review is not attributed to anyone, it would appear that Harting thoroughly read this copy of The Birds of Cumberland and was very probably the author of the review. The notes he made in his copy feature clearly within the review. The insertions added to this copy by Harting date until 1912 indicating his ongoing curiosity and high level of interest in the subject.
