Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition. Embossed, decorative cloth with gilt title on the spine. Well-worn covers with some of the cloth worn through at the corners and edges. A bit of scuffing and soiling. The spine backstrip has been reglued with a neutral pH adhesive. Light endpaper foxing and a few pages showing a bit of foxing. Ownership provenance on the front free endpaper: A.A. Morrison (1857) and H.H. Morrison (1883). 720 pages: Ten chapters plus Biographical index, Alphabetical list of Biographies, Resolutions of Synods and Presbyteries, Presbyterian Historical Society, and A List of Subscribers to the History of the Presbyterian Church (with Addenda). The book includes a memoir of the author by the Rev. C. Van Rensselaer, D.D. and An Historical Introduction by the Rev. William Blackwood, D.D. The book's provenance is documented by two owner names and dates written on the front free endpaper: A.A. Morrison, 1857, and H.H. Morrison, 1883. Of A.A. Morrison, we learned that he was an itinerant Presbyterian minister serving congregations in Ohio and Iowa and worked as a school teacher. This period of his life, 1838 to 1868, is detailed in his diary, in which he also records trouble with the local Presbytery. His diary and letters from that period are in the Wichita State University Special Collections and University Archives. Genealogy records report Rev. Morrison was born in North Carolina in 1824 and died in Kansas in 1883 where he was the first presbyterian minister to hold services in Salina (circa 1860). His son inherited the book in 1883, the year his father died. H.H. Morrison was Hugh Hiel Morrison (1836 to 1917), an early resident of Salina, Kansas.
