Aggiungi al carrelloHardback. Condizione: Fine. If you?ve ever looked at IBM and thought, ?Yes, but what was it like when it still felt like the future had a dress code??, then ?and Tomorrow the World ? Inside IBM (1975) by Rex Malik is your time machine. Published by Millington (ISBN: 0860000435), this is a peek behind the curtain at Big Blue in the era when computers were serious, rooms were large, and the word ?startup? mostly meant somebody had misread the instructions. This isn?t IBM as a logo on a cloud service. This is IBM as an institution ? the corporate cathedral of processing power, where suits were pressed, procedures were worshipped, and the machinery hummed with the quiet confidence of a company that believed it was building tomorrow by the ton. Malik takes you inside the culture, the mindset, the scale ? the sense that IBM wasn?t merely selling products so much as selling the very idea of organised, modern civilisation. If paperwork had a patron saint, it probably wore an IBM badge. Reading it now is deliciously double-edged. On one hand, it?s an era of clean optimism: technology as progress, systems as solutions, the future arriving on schedule. On the other, it?s the kind of corporate atmosphere that makes you realise why ?office satire? became a genre. You can practically hear the clack of typewriters in the outer rings and the low, reverent hush around the mainframes. And the title itself ? ?and Tomorrow the World ? is wonderfully 1970s confident. Not ?and tomorrow, hopefully, a modest improvement in quarterly performance,? but the world . The ambition is unapologetic. It?s a book from a time when technology companies still sounded like they were marching towards utopia, rather than A/B testing your attention span. Condition-wise, this one is Fine , and it genuinely matters here. Because books about corporate empires tend to be handled, referenced, loaned, underlined, and generally ?used? in the way that sounds respectable but looks dreadful. Not this copy. This is very well preserved , kept in an archival plastic sleeve like it?s an artefact from the early civilisation of computing ? which, in a way, it is. Crisp, protected, and ready to be admired either as a historical document or as a slightly eerie glimpse into the mindset that shaped modern tech. Perfect for: computing history nerds who like their nostalgia with a side of organisational psychology IBM collectors and ?Big Blue? devotees anyone fascinated by corporate culture at industrial scale readers who enjoy the peculiar thrill of seeing yesterday?s future described with complete sincerity Available now from Crappy Old Books , where the past is neatly sleeved, the paper is still proud, and tomorrow remains?quietly?under revision.

Condizione: Very Good. 1964. Paperback. PENGUIN SPECIALS. This series was for topical interest on contemporary political and social issues. S1 'Germany Puts the Clock Back' by Edgar Mowrer was issued in November 1937. The initial print run of 50,000 books sold out in 4 days. This series achieved very large sales figures, and since Penguin's war-time paper rationing was based on pre-war usage, this greatly helped to sustain Penguin Books during the period of the Second World War. A total of 145 Specials were produced during the war until the end of 1945. A new series of 'Specials' returned to the shelves with the publication of S156The Case for Communism in February 1949. A few of the earlier books were designated 'Pelican Specials' with a blue and white cover, and some found their way into the PELICAN series marked with an 'A'. A number of others were also designated Penguin Handbooks with green covers, and then re-appeared in the newly created series of PENGUIN HANDBOOKS marked with 'PH'-from the Penguin collectors website.
