Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition. FIRST EDITION, 1880. Hardcover. Written in Latin and English. The text is primarily in Latin, while the preface is in English. Bound in half sheepskin leather and cloth, boards are a purplish burgundy with gilt lining at the leather and cloth seams. Hubbed, leather spine bears gilt stamped lettering and ornamentation between its five raised bands. Deckled edges. Three parts bound in one. Each begins with beautiful decorative pages in color introducing each part. Illustrated throughout with beautiful images and calligraphy, both color and in black and white. Fold out, full color, medieval style, calligraphed leaf appears hand illuminated and is protected by a tissue leaf. Parts are xvii, xlii, liii, main pages are unpaginated, yet stanzas and/or lines are numbered by roman numerals. Erratum slip is tipped in, in front of the title page. Ex libris bookplate from previous owner, Thomas Isaac Ball, (believed author, hymnist and Provost of Cathedral of The Isles and Collegiate Church of the Holy Spirit, Millport, Isle of Cumbrae from 1892 until his death on 3 August 1916), is affixed to the front pastedown. Copy shows overall wear and some foxing, particularly within the endpapers. Leaves are age toned, yet illustrations and text remain uncompromised, and pages are free from marginalia or annotation. Lovely illustrations. A nice copy. Additional photographs available upon request. Due to this copy's size and weight, additional shipping charge may be needed. Full refund if not satisfied.
