Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Rye, now a suburb of New York City, has a fascinating history dating from its founding in 1660. Due to its extensive waterfront on Long Island Sound, Rye has been home to several major amusement parks, as well as beaches and nearly a dozen clubs. These clubs have featured sailing, golf, and swimming, and numerous postcard scenes in Rye show the ways in which residents entertained themselves over the years. Rye also contains plentiful views of the churches and schools in town, which date back well into the 19th century. The town has had a number of famous private schools and institutions, including St. Benedict's Home for Colored Children and the Osborn. Scenes also show civic buildings, such as the fire stations, post offices, train stations, and the mansions of the wealthy. Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Lake Sunapee in southern New Hampshire is one of the gems of New England. It is 10 miles long, and at 1,100 feet in elevation, it is the highest large lake in the state. It is dominated at its southern end by the magnificent Mount Sunapee. The lakeshore has an unusually interesting history, traced here in postcard views, many from the start of the 20th century. They tell a story of large resort hotels, steamboat travel, and trains, all in the era before the automobile. The lake itself has been a major center of sailing, powerboating, water skiing, fishing, and swimming. Today, the large resorts are gone, and the shore is dominated by thousands of cottages along its 32 miles of waterfront. The towns on the lake as they were a century ago are also fully illustrated--Sunapee Harbor, Georges Mills, New London, Blodgett Landing, Newbury, and Burkehaven. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.
