Mit 10 gestochenen Titelvignetten, 39 Titelholzschnitte, 3 Blatt, 443 Seiten, 4 Blatt, Lederband der Zeit, 20,5 x 17 cm, Einband berieben, ohne die Vorsatzblätter, die beiden Innendeckel mit Federproben und Kritzeleien mit Abklatsch auf dem Titel und dem letzten Blatt, innen durchgehend etwas gebräunt. Christian Detlef Rhode, geboren 1653 in Itzehoe, war vom Jahre 16731711 Pfarrer in Barmstedt, einem Marktflecken im südlichen Holstein, dann Propst und Inspector der Kirchen auf der Insel Fehmarn. Während seines 38jährigen Aufenthaltes in Barmstedt beschäftigte er sich mit der Untersuchung von prähistorischen Grabhügeln in Holstein. Die Resultate seiner Arbeiten gab sein Sohn Andreas Albert Rhode nach dem Tode seines Vaters in den vorliegenden Cimbrisch-hollsteinische Antiquitäten-Remarques" heraus. Die Cimbrisch-Hollsteinischen Antiquitäten-Remarques geben die Methode an, wie Grabhügel zu öffnen sind; sie erörtern die Bestattungsformen der prähistorischen Zeit, die Bauart der Gräber und die in denselben gemachten Funde. Ferner geben sie eine Beschreibung der gefundenen Gefäße, Geräthe und Waffen und erklären deren Bestimmung unter Vergleichung der bei anderen Völkern herrschenden Sitten und Gebräuche. Mit Recht wird daher R. als der Erste bezeichnet, der die Gräberfunde auf eine wissenschaftliche Weise behandelt hat" (ADB, Band 28).
