"La littérature du Moyen Age nous a légué deux grands mythes : la légende de Tristan et celle du Gr…aal. Au coeur même de la problématique des célèbres romans qui en son nés, deux objets emblématiques - le Philtre et le Graal - n'ont cessé depuis lors d'interroger et de fasciner la pensée et la culture occidentales. Bien des interprétations ont été proposées de ces mystérieux objets, bien des "lectures" ont été risquées pour rendre compte de ces oeuvres énigmatiques dont ils sont comme le soleil noir. Se fondant sur des "signes" - tel le prologue du Conte du Graal - qui manifestent une orientation religieuse parfaitement accordée à l'esprit et à la civilisation du temps, le présent essai propose une interprétation métaphysique et théologique des deux plus anciens témoins du mythe originel, le Tristan du trouvère Béroul et le Conte du Graal de Chrétien de Troyes. Il en donne une lecture délibérément symbolique où les héros - Tristan et Yseult, Perceval et Gauvain - apparaissent comme des figures de l'Homme face aux figures de Dieu ou du Diable qu'incarnent d'autres personnages - le tout culminant et prenant tout son sens dans la confrontation de ces deux figures emblématiques, à la fois antithétiques et complémentaires : le Philtre et le Graal, le Péché et la Grâce. En annexe, on trouvera - texte original et traduction en regard - les passages des deux romans où il est fait explicitement mention du Philtre et du Graal.".
