144pp, (5.5 x 8.5 inches), b&w drawings. Very Good/Very Good, hardcover with dust jacket. Everything clean and bright, book is well bound, no markings. Jacket is in a DJ protector which the owner has taped to the boards. (NOT a library book, despite the taped DJ.) Story of a Navajo Indian boy who goes to an Indian boarding school and actually likes the experience. He chooses to go, against his familiy's wishes. (This runs counter to most of the Indian experience with forced attendance at boarding schools, and the resulting loss of connection to their own identity.) Eventually he chooses to return home, and brings his art supplies with him, to pursue the talents the school encouraged, but in the context of his Navajo life. Richard Cuffari. (illustratore).

Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First edition, first printing. By the critically acclaimed Arizona English professor and author of CATWALK, THE HUNT, MY OLD MAN, BILLY LIGHTFOOT, and ULTIMATE RETREAT--the memoir of his entire family getting in touch with nature in a primitive cabin in the Arizona mountains. Johnny, a young man who constantly travels and roams the open roads, hops freight trains, and 'moves on' is featured falling in love with a young stationary lady in a highly lauded novel. This on-the-road book is quite elusive, especially in such nice (non-exlibrary) condition. Fine, firm, square, tight and probably unread in fresh mustard linen with green embossed titles to the spine, green end-papers; in a very nearly fine dust jacket with a hint of dust soiling and just a touch of tanning to the spine panel; original printed $4.50 price still intact to the front inner flap.
