Bound volume of six issues of Harper's Magazine, Vol. 145 No. 865-870 (June-Nov. 1922). Green cloth over boards, title stamped in gilt onto spine, large 8vo (9-1/2 inches tall), pp. [i-ii], 1-844, illustrated throughout. Bound with issues slightly trimmed, without covers and ads but with all frontispieces and contents pages. Light ex-library, with minor wear to covers and some rubber stamps noted - not effecting illustrations or text, with Ransome's story and the five illustrations by J. Nadejen (pp. [734] - 743) fine and unmarked throughout. The dedication of the 1945 Cape reprint "notes that. 'The Soldier and Death' was the author's 'favorite of all Russian tales'." Ref.
