Por un lado, el paradigma dialéctico estuvo al servicio de los europeos,… en particular de los misioneros durante gran parte del período colonial. Los misioneros percibían a África en términos negativos en la medida en que la mayoría de ellos no comprometía su punto de vista. Ese punto de vista consistía en destruir todo el tejido de la sociedad africana tradicional. Este fue el fundamento de una perjudicial teoría de 'centro-periferia', a la que los europeos se adhirieron. El estudio plantea que fue esta teoría centro-periferia la que dio forma, por ejemplo, al cristianismo misionero para que permaneciera como una religión extranjera, a pesar de tener una presencia casi permanente en África. Les missionnaires percevaient l'Afrique en termes négatifs dans la mesure où la majorité d'entre eux ne compromettaient pas leur point de vue. Ce point de vue consistait à détruire tout le tissu de la société africaine traditionnelle. C'était le fondement d'une théorie préjudiciable du 'centre-périphérie', à laquelle les Européens souscrivaient. L'étude affirme que c'est cette théorie du centre-périphérie qui a permis, par exemple, au christianisme missionnaire de rester comme une religion étrangère, bien qu'il ait un ancrage presque permanent en Afrique. D'autre part, le paradigme dialogique perçoit un rôle intégrateur, dans lequel la culture traditionnelle peut fonctionner au service de la théologie et ainsi revigorer le christianisme africain. Zendelingen zagen Afrika in negatieve zin in zoverre dat de meerderheid van hen hun standpunt niet in gevaar bracht. Dat standpunt was om elk weefsel van de traditionele Afrikaanse samenleving te vernietigen. Dit was de basis van een schadelijke 'centrum-periferie'-theorie, die door de Europeanen werd onderschreven. De studie stelt dat het deze centrum-periferie-theorie was die bijvoorbeeld het zendingschristendom heeft gevormd om als een vreemde religie te blijven, ondanks het feit dat het een bijna permanente positie heeft in Afrika. Aan de andere kant ziet het dialogisch paradigma een integrerende rol weggelegd voor de traditionele cultuur, die ten dienste kan staan van de theologie en zo het Afrikaanse christendom opnieuw kan stimuleren. Die Missionare nahmen Afrika insofern negativ wahr, als die Mehrheit von ihnen ihren Standpunkt nicht kompromittierte. Dieser Standpunkt bestand darin, jede Struktur der traditionellen afrikanischen Gesellschaft zu zerstören. Dies war die Grundlage einer vorurteilsbehafteten 'Zentrum-Peripherie'-Theorie, der sich die Europäer anschlossen. Die Studie behauptet, dass es diese Zentrum-Peripherie-Theorie war, die zum Beispiel das missionarische Christentum so prägte, dass es wie eine fremde Religion blieb, obwohl es in Afrika fast dauerhaft Fuß gefasst hatte. Andererseits nimmt das dialogische Paradigma eine integrative Rolle wahr, in der die traditionelle Kultur im Dienste der Theologie funktionieren kann und dadurch das afrikanische Christentum neu belebt. O estudo postula que foi esta teoria centro-periferia que moldou, por exemplo, o cristianismo missionário a permanecer como uma religião estrangeira, apesar de ter uma base quase permanente em África. Por outro lado, o paradigma dialógico percebe um papel integrador, no qual a cultura tradicional pode funcionar ao serviço da teologia e assim revigorar o cristianismo africano.
