A frontis woodcut of the Dolphin leaving Matavai Bay, Tahiti, from a maq…uette by the artist, Rene Dessirier. This is signed by him. It is in wonderfully fresh condition. Precious little is known about Richardson or how - other than through a spirit of adventure and romance - came to be on the Dolphin. Certainly, the poem is considered to be the first work of creative art inspired by Tahiti. Printed on laid paper. Binding is pleasingly stitched. The book is housed in a marbled board slipcase and portfolio-style casing. The slipcase has some wear, tanning and scuffing about the edges, faces. It is sturdy and sure. The casing is fresh, neat, unblemished, elegant. The book's card covers are simple, chic. They have some very little wear about the edges. Otherwise, they are tidy and assured. The contents are exceptionally gratifying. They are very clean, very clear, fresh-faced, very healthy and confidently engaging - as if new throughout! Just lovely. fk.
