Johanson was born in San Diego,California. L.S. later moved to Scandinavia where she lived on a small farm in western Denmark for 25 years. As an interpreter, translator, and teacher, she studied languages and linguistics at Aalborg University and Aarhus University in Denmark (Cand.Phil., Cand.Mag.)
