Hard Cover. First printing, full number line. Collection of columns from the New Republic's Nixon Watch column. In his obituary Osborne's editor at the New Republic remembered him as "the best and sometimes the only way to make sense of what was going on in the White House was to wait for John Osborne's column in the New Republic. Mr. Osborne was a scrupulous, fair and painstaking reporter, a fine writer and an admirable, generous man." In spite of those qualities, or perhaps because of them, Osborne managed to make Nixon's infamous "Enemies List." Books and other items ship promptly with a tracking number and(generally over $15.00) jacket protectors if applicable. Clean recycled packing material will be used when possible. Prima edizione
First edition (as stated upon copyright page) INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. [8], 278 pages. Hardcover: H 21.75cm x L 14.75cm. Dust jacket toned and soiled; chipping and tears at spine and flap fold ends; front flap retains publisher's printed price at bottom right. Light green cloth with several light brown abraded spots along spine and boards' bottom edges. Light foxing to text block edges. Author's two-line pencil inscription "To the Lyons | A.C. Spectorsky" followed by a bold pencil line on front pastedown and partially hidden underneath dj's front flap. Strong foxing to endpapers; occasional light foxing to interior leaves which otherwise mostly remain clean. Binding is firm. Book is presented in past owner's custom-sized green wood slipcase (by Book Protectors, Inc., Lake Helen, Florida) with top panel slide and maroon folder insert for book; green slipcase is a bit inelegant but certainly quite sturdy with some scuffs/abrasions; slipcase's spine decorated with seven raised bands (one band having surface damage) and three gilt-lettered black leather labels (for title-author-date). Acquired among a small collection of books acquired from a West Point, Mississippi estate which evidently had some connection to author Peter Lyon (1915-1996). Please note that, because of the slipcase, the book has an approximate shipping weight of 3.5 pounds (1.58 kg) and may require additional postage for any postal class other than domestic Media Mail.

Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near fine. Robert Osborn, Illustrator (illustratore). First thus. An apparently uncommon illustrated hardcover edition (with no other copies available online as of this writing), published the year afterThe Population Bomb was first released as a mass market paperback in 1968. Inscribed by Ehrlich on the title page: "For Carl & Estelle, with warm regards, Paul Ehrlich." A deeply influential and controversial book about overpopulation and resource scarcity that has defined Ehrlich's distinguished career and perhaps overshadowed his achievements in conservation biology. The book was called alarmist by some, but Ehrlich years later said that"perhaps the most serious flaw inThe Bombwas that it was much too optimistic about the future." Also of interest is the fact that it was co-authored by Paul's wife Anne Ehrlich, but the publisher insisted on crediting justPaul. With a foreword by David Brower.A fine book in a near fine jacket a little rubbing, light edge wear, a half-inch inconspicuous tear to upper corner of the front panel at the flap fold. A nice find.
