Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition. Art and Art History, Prints, Most Recent Listing; Volume 58, Number 6; 4to; 178 pages; Clean and secure in original glossy pictorial wrappers slight curling at corners of front wrapper. Cover by Lucas Samaras. Issue features a wonderful original offset lithograph by Robert Rauschenberg printed at Triton Press. Feature article: Autopolaroid by Lucas Samaras. Samaras was born in Kastoria, Greece. He studied at Rutgers University on a scholarship, where he met Allan Kaprow and George Segal. Samaras participated in Kaprow's "Happenings," and posed for Segal's plaster sculptures.[2] Claes Oldenburg, in whose Happenings he also participated, later referred to Samaras as one of the "New Jersey school," which also included Kaprow, Segal, George Brecht, Robert Whitman, Robert Watts, Geoffrey Hendricks and Roy Lichtenstein. Samaras previously worked in painting, sculpture, and performance art, before beginning work in photography. He subsequently constructed room environments that contained elements from his own personal history.[3] His "Auto-Interviews" were a series of text works that were "self-investigatory" interviews.[4] The primary subject of his photographic work is his own self-image, generally distorted and mutilated. He has worked with multi-media collages, and by manipulating the wet dyes in Polaroid photographic film to create what he calls "Photo-Transformations.".…

NYC: American Federation of Arts/Universe, 1994. VG in wraps. Bright, clean interior and strong binding with just a touch of shelfwear to covers and tiny bump to upper rear corner. A handsome copy of this exhibition catalog. Neo-Dada emerged in the late 1950s as a bridge between the irreverent provocations of early 20th-century Dada and the bold experimentation that defined postwar art. With roots in Marcel Duchamp's readymades and Kurt Schwitters' collages, Neo-Dada artists embraced everyday objects, found materials, performance, and chance as ways to undermine traditional notions of art. The movement thrived on irony, wit, and subversion—setting the stage for Fluxus, Pop Art, and Conceptualism. Among the most celebrated figures in this wave were Robert Rauschenberg, whose combines blurred painting and sculpture; Jasper Johns, who turned flags and targets into high art; Yoko Ono, whose performances redefined audience participation; and Andy Warhol, who brought consumer culture to the canvas. Others, like Claes Oldenburg, Yves Klein, Carolee Schneemann, and Nam June Paik, expanded the Neo-Dada ethos into happenings, environments, and new media. Neo-Dada: Redefining Art 1958-62 accompanied a major exhibition and brings together essays, interviews, and images to capture this restless, transitional moment in art history. A key reference for collectors of postwar avant-garde—this catalog vividly documents the movement that reshaped art between Dada and Pop.…

Softcover. Condizione: VG+. Thick color illustrated card wraps, glued binding. 412 pp., profusely illustrated in color and bw. The first US artist to win the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in 1963, Robert Rauschenberg blazed a new trail for art in the second half of the 20th century. Bringing together a selection of key works from different periods, the book will provide a long overdue opportunity to discover a remarkably consistent artistic trajectory which steadfastly refused to be straight-jacketed by rules and conventions. Each chapter in Rauschenberg's six-decade career will be represented by major works. This book collects 14 essays focusing on key moments in Rauschenberg's oeuvre.…

Friends of Photography was a nonprofit organization started by Ansel Adams and others in 1967 to promote photography as a fine art. During its existence the organization held at least 330 photography exhibitions at its galleries in Carmel and San Francisco, California, and it published a lengthy series of monographs under the name Untitled. Untitled was published Friends of Photography from 1972 to 1994. A total of 58 numbered publications were issued, first as a small magazine format and later as a series of booklets and full-size books. Numbers 1-10 displayed the series name and issue number on the cover, but as the publications became more specialized each number was titled independently in addition to the series name. The smallest publication in the series was Number 1, with 10 pages, and the largest was Number 43, with 156 pages. Many of the publications were catalogs of exhibitions held at the Friends of Photography gallery in Carmel, California. The publication featured many famous photographers, including Ansel Adams, Ruth Bernhard, Harry Callahan, Roy DeCarava, Lee Friedlander, Mary Ellen Mark, Aaron Siskind, Paul Strand, Brett Weston, and Edward Weston. It also offered perspectives on newer photographic trends like plastic cameras and the influence of pop-art.The series of Untitled monographs includes: 1: Edward Weston, Dody W. A Bradbury Thompson-designed catalogue for the remarkable group show at Stable Gallery (Nov. 29 - Dec. 23, 1955); organized to correspond with Thomas Hess' exposé on a new generation of American painters for Art News Annual ("U.S. Painting: Some Recent Directions"). The exhibition featured a total of 59 works from twenty-one artists, including: Elaine de Kooning, Robert de Niro, Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell, Larry Rivers, and Robert Rauschenberg, who here exhibited one of his earliest combines and is credited as being of "inestimable help" in the show's preparation. Each of the artists represented in a grid of b&w portraits, imposed opposite a lengthy text by Hess: "In one sense the younger artist can be compared to a pair of mirrors, set back to back, reflecting simultaneously an image of the past and of the future?the point where the light of history is more concentrated. In another sense, the younger artist is a breaker of historical mirrors?the contemporary instant of creation for which past and future are equally absurd. The mirror of his art is fixed in front of his own eyes." Some tenderness to glossy sheet at fold-lines, with faint stains to text section, but nonetheless a well-preserved copy of a scarce document; better than very good. With only a single OCLC record located in North America (Frick).…
