The front cover lists only Alibi for Isabel however the title page has both Alibi for Isabel and The Lipstick -- two stories of Suspense and Murder unabridged. Alibi for Isabel first appeared in Good Housekeeping. Rinehart was born in Pittsburgh and was a nurse in her youth and has often used a hospital background for her stories. A writer at age of 15 she sold her first magazine story for $34. By 1944 she had published 60 books. Although she has written mostly mystery stories she also is distinguished for her novels and plays. In the Alibi story a former friend presents Sally Fielding with an overpowering problem. Sally's past is spotless except for one tragic mistake and Isabel is about to force her to pay dearly for that slip. Suspense rises to a crashing climax as Isabel spins her web of evil. This book is one of the 10 cent books that Dell began to publish in 1944. They were reprints of famous stories by famous authors that previously had appeared only in higher priced books.
