Cloth. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. First Edition. Hardback. Slight shelf wear to top edge of D/J. Price clipped to D/J. In this book the authors argue that the clergy and the Church as a whole have retreated from public-life as the result of a series of three secularisations, of which the Reformation w…as the first. The authors argue on the basis of intensive research that there are now broadly two types of clergy: pious, enthusiastic conservatives, and a radical group with a positive distaste for piety and churchiness. The bookconcludes that in the short run it will be the conservative, suburban churchs which will flourish, but that in the long run the whole face of the Church of England will change, the traditional parishes disappearing and with them the traditional clergy, to be replaced by a few sect-like congregations. The larger Church will not die, but its future shape is yet to emerge. 248 pp. ( We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.).
