Second edition. 8vo. half-title, tp, Dedication, 1-78pp., 81-188pp. Page 78 is the End of Part II; page 80 is the first pag…e to Sequel to the Military adventures.It does not look like any content is missing to it may be a matter of miss-numbering. Twelve hand-colored aquatint plates by Rowlandson, labeled Frontispiece, 1-11 and 14. Other listings have indicated 15 plates, thus 12 and 13, are missing. Very good minus book with new spine. Half-leather with blue marbled paper. Most edges are rubbed through. A number of pages have repairs of archival paper to the fore-edge margins. Several pages, including verso to frontispiece, tp, and Dedication have penciled notes and random jottings. Front paste-down has several small ink notes. Both free-endpapers have shadow transfers. A few internal smudges, intermittent foxing, some very grubby pages and some very clean. Text block is sound due to new spine. Please use close-up options for best inspection and in support of condition descriptions. Additional photos available at your request.

Small hole (1/8 inch) on pp. 111/112 just affecting one letter. Some minor offsetting from plates to text and some scattered light foxing to text. Bound ca. 1930 in full dark red crushed levant morocco, covers with triple gilt-rule borders, spine with two raised bands, decoratively tooled and lettered in gilt in compartments, gilt-decorated board edge corners, triple gilt-ruled turn-ins, marbled endpapers, top edge gilt, others uncut. Original purple cloth covers and spine bound in at end. "To the Subalterns of the British Army. Small neat and almost invisible repair to lower blank margin of title-page, some very minor offsetting from plates to text otherwise a very fine example in a fine early twentieth century binding.
