This is the first issue of 'The Puku', a series of wildlife bulletins that published the results of research and reports on field observation by Northen Rhodesia Game and Fisheries Staff. After the foreword, the journal contains papers on The Lechwe, Additional Breeding Data on Northern Rhodesian Mammals, Surveying Luangwa Hippo, Breeding Seasons of Game Birds, The Gaboon Viper, A List of Plants Collected in the Kafue National Park, Notes on the Biology and Behaviour of the Spotted-necked Otter, and Weights of some of the Larger Mammals of Northern Rhodesia. There are some short communications at the end of the journal. The journal is staple-bound in the original thick paper wraps with titling and an illustration on the front cover. It is in good to very good condition with expected shelf wear and some soiling on the covers. The corners of the covers are curled with small creases and there is some damage and loss to the paper covering the bottom 3/4" of the spine. There is some pencil drawing on the rear cover. The contents are secure and clean with dog-ear creases and curling to the corners of the first and last twenty or so pages. There is no title-page, probably as issued, with the first page being the contents page. This page has some damage near the spine around the top staple and a small hole that has been repaired with tape near the fore edge. There is no inscription.
