The chemist Torbern Bergman (1735-84) was one of the many talented Swedish scientists who contributed to the "golden age of Swedish science" i…n the wake of Linneaus. Bergman is considered to be the founder of the qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis in a modern sense and introduced wet methods to improve on the latter. He published a large number of works, mainly on chemistry, but also on physics, electricity and physical geography. Most of his works were written in Latin, which made them instantly accessible for the international scientific community, but some were also translated into German, French, English and Danish. This thesis is on the mineral asbestos.
