Brossura. Condizione: new. Testo Italiano e Inglese.Firenze, 2005; br., pp. 132, ill. b/n e col., cm 22x22.(Arte e Varia. 3). Giovanni Carlo Rocca, disappointed by the critics' indifference towards the academic genre that characterized hids first works, decided at once to exploit his paintings talents in the restoration field. He… works as a restorer for more of twenty years: thanks to that experience full of magic and emotions, he could increases his store of knowledge. He had to study and analyse a large number of artists in order to imitate them in the most realistic way, so that they could be given back the deserve visibility. Restoration was an exciting job, but it didn't give space to his personmal creativity. About three years ago he came back to painting but his desire he came a real project only when he started working in Palazzo Doria. It was at that moment that Square Roots came into being. "Roots" refers to the strong call of the past, that suggests not only his subjects but also his way of painting borrowed from restoration. "Square" is a strong contrast to the past because it's a size that first appeared with modern art. In this exibition he actually draws on the subjects of the works he restored: he extracts the character he's interested in and reproduces it playing with the square shape and with the colours bright hues for the backgrounds and black to undeline the characters.
