Nicolaas Rockox (1560-1640) was an influential Antwerp citizen who played an important role in political, social and economic life during the first half of the 17th century. In addition to being an esteemed humanist, archeologist and numismatist, Rockox was a great patron on the arts and supporting numerous famous artist, and in particular, Peter Paul Rubens, which is the focus of this brochure. Ruim zes jaar geleden is de Stichting Nicolaas Rockox v.z.w., onder de auspicien van de Kredietbank, met de voorbereiding van dit revalorisatieproject begonnen. Nu het huis van de Antwerpse burgemeester uit de 17e eeuw, Nicolaas Rockox, als een kostbaar cultureel erfgoed uit die tijd in zijn oorspronkelijke architectonische schoonheid is hersteld, zal het ten dienste van onze en volgende generaties ook nieuwe, eigentijdse functies te vervullen krijgen.
