Illustrated with entirely new digital photography, made to mark the 500th anniversary of the artist's death, the book focuses on Raphael's artistic practice and his legacy. Soft cover. Condizione: New. 267 p. : ill. ; 24 cm. The subject of this fifth supplement to the Bollettino dei Monumenti Musei e Gallerie Pontificie is the collection of textiles coming from pre-Columbian Peru, consisting of 26 finds: fabric fragments, cords and wool yarns, collected by the Swiss chemist Rodolphe Pfister. Initia…lly kept in the Vatican Apostolic Library, the collection became part of the Vatican Museums in 1999, but only in 2012 a systematic study of the fabrics and their classification took place. The results are published today in this volume. In the first part Mario Cappozzo presents the figure of Pfister and retraces the history of the collection, investigating the areas of origin, particularly the excavations and antiques markets in Egypt. Jean-François Genotte then analyzes the archival documentation, in order to outline the historical, geographical and cultural framework in which the textiles were produced. Furthermore, the materials and execution techniques of pre-Columbian culture are analyzed. The second part is the actual catalogue, reporting the essential information about each of the finds inventory number, dimensions, material, culture, production area, dating, bibliography , followed by the stylistic sheet, the technical sheet and the attribution, determined by means of an accurate iconographic and formal analysis. Contents: Introduzione / Alessandra Rodolfo L'archivio personale di Rodolphe Pfister / Marta Bezzini La messa in sicurezza della Collezione Pfister / Chiara Pavan L'egitto e il Vicino Oriente nella Collezione Pfister. Hardcover. Condizione: New. 269 pages : illustrations (chiefly colour) ; 29 cm. in Italian. Papers presented at a cycle of meetings organized by the Diocese of Rome, and held in Rome in the fall of 2010. 'Monographic volume available exclusively in Italian, devoted to the work of Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio in Rome. In 201…0, in the Roman churches that preserve the masterpieces of the Lombard painter, a series of conferences was held, whose proceedings are gathered and published in full here. San Luigi dei Francesi, Santa Maria del Popolo, Sant'Agostino in Campo Marzio and Santa Maria in Vallicella are the places in Rome where the painter's genius has made its mark. Each section represents a keystone in his artistic life, providing not only a geographical location of the work but also a historical and cultural contextualisation. An extensive reconstruction of Rome in the years between the 16th and 17th centuries and of the controversial personal and artistic events in the painter's life introduces the reader to the "wondrous things" painted during his Roman period. These include the Martyrdom of St. Matthew, the Crucifixion of St. Peter, the Madonna of Loreto, the Deposition of Christ: the reader can discover the genesis of each work, an iconographic analysis, and the results of important scientific research. The accompanying illustrations are of high quality, including full-page reproductions and numerous details, not only of the works examined but also of paintings conserved in prestigious museums throughout the world'.
