Jahrhunderts ist die gezielte Verwendung von Anekdoten und Wortspielen in den Beispielen, um die Diskrepanz zwischen Aussprache und Graphie bzw. Ausdruck und Inhalt des Französischen zu pointieren. Darüber hinaus vermittelt das Wörterbuch ein anschauliches Bild des Alltagslebens der Französischen Revolution und ist deshalb auch für die mentalitätshistorische Forschung von hohem Stellenwert. Die ausführliche Einleitung gibt einen Überblick über die Entstehungsgeschichte des DRR, informiert eingehend über das Leben des Verfassers, eines ehemaligen Priesters und Genfer Sprachlehrers (1741-1806) italienischer Herkunft, und beschreibt linguistische wie inhaltliche Spezifika des Wörterbuchs. A la différence d'autres dictionnaires révolutionnaires contemporains, le DRR traite principalement du vocabulaire quotidien en se référant de multiples manières au "Dictionnaire de l'Académie Française". Le DRR est le troisième dictionnaire d'homonymes dans l'histoire de la lexicographie française.
