Robert Cameron Rogers (1862 - 1912) was a poet and novelist born in Buffalo, New York, who gained widespread recognition for his poem The Rosary. After graduating from Yale in 1883, Rogers wrote extensively, contributing to various literary publications. His poem The Rosary became a popular text for musical compositions, set by several composers, including Georgia B. Welles. Welles, an early 20th-century composer, is best known for her work in sacred music, particularly her collaboration with Rogers on The Rosary, which was first published in 1903 by Armstrong Music Publishing. The Eclipse Publishing Company's "Beaux-Arts Edition" of the song, released in 1908, featured Welles' music paired with Rogers' evocative lyrics, which likened moments of love and sorrow to beads on a rosary. A note about the cover art : Some of the most creative and eye-catching cover art of the ragtime-era were done by one of the prolific, but elusive, Starmer Brothers. Their work was of consistently high quality and they were turning out nearly a quarter of all large format covers from the late 1890s to around 1919. The identity of the artists was unknown until an invoice was discovered with a printed heading describing "Starmer" as artist and medical draughtsman. Not much else is known about the Starmer family.…
