Orig. published in 1917, this is a likely First Printing of that FIRST EDTIION, listing only to Self in front matter & only the original 20 Rover Boys titles in rear. 12mo has medium green cloth over boards with a black & red design & lettering to front & spine. Condition is Fair: heavy rubbing to extremities & bumping to corners & spine tips, with slight loss. Sewn binding is secure, though rear hinge is cracked. Ffep has been excised. The series was popular & made into a series of 12 films, 1949-1955, starring Johnny Sheffield, who had played "Boy" in the original Tarzan films starring Johnny Weissmuller. From 1932, this was book #13 in the original Cupples & Leon printings (the true FIRST EDITIONs), & a true First Printing, listing to self in front matter, in 206 pages with glossy frontispiece by W. S. Rogers (unattributed in book). A 12mo (5" x 7.5") with tan cloth-covered boards stamped with a black design showing Bomba in the jungle to front center, lettered above & below & to spine in black, this book is in Fair condition: generally quite clean, text block strong but rear hinge is cracked. Cloth fraying at head and foot of spine and corners where bumped. Front gutter is cracked through, and one or two other places in text block that have slightly cracked; binding feels a bit loose, especially that of first signature. Illustrations by W. A. Rogers throughout. A scarce title in fair reading condition.

The series was popular & made into a series of 12 films, 1949-1955, starring Johnny Sheffield, who had played "Boy" in the original Tarzan films starring Johnny Weissmuller. From 1930, this was book #9 in the original Cupples & Leon printings (the true FIRST EDITIONs), but a Second Printing, listing to book No.10 in front matter. In 204 pages + 4 pages of ads for other children's titles by this publisher in rear. Frontispiece & DJ cover art by W. S. Rogers (unattributed in book).
