Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good Plus to Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good Plus. Fedor Rojankovsky (illustratore). Early Printing. Part of the Landmark book series written in the 50's for school age children, often by noted historians. Unmarked, Clean and tight. Price clipped jacket has Jacket has light edgewear at spine ends. In mylar. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
Softcover. Condizione: Good. No Jacket. "This 9.0 x 8.25 inch, unpaginated (32) page softcover book is the apparent 1943 printing of this book as noted on the last page of the text with the notation "M. Dechaux-1943," and with a 1936 copyright on the title page. This is the French publication of this title with the covers and text in French. This copy is in good condition with the card-stock wrappers showing edge wear and a bit of time smudging - - and with the fold for the wrappers now chipped and with tears at top and bottom - - and the staples have pulled thru the wrapper. The wrappers are still fully intact and they are not in danger of tearing all the way down the center fold. The interior text pages are much better with only a modest bit of corner wear to the top and bottom fore-edges but beyond that only a bit of age toning to the title page and last page of the book are really condition issues to mention. The illustrations for this title are striking with the soft color used for the full-page illustrations - - and then the margin illustrations for the printed page - - are all of note as influential of the subsequent direction and technique for the illustration of childrens? books. 32 pages.".

Landmark Books and World Landmark Books are accurate, in-depth stories for young people in the 9-15 year old range. These living histories were written by award-winning authors or by men and women who experienced the events first hand. Written during the 1950's and 1960's and illustrated either with two-color drawings or clear photographs, the books are informative, enjoyable, and well worth reading and collecting. Balboa Swordsman and Conquistador World Landmark #25. In 1513, Balboa first sighted the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean, a discovery that changed the maps of the world and the course of history. Here is an authentic biography of this great explorer. Not only was he an outstanding colonizer and military strategist, as well as the most formidable swordsman of the early sixteenth century, but he was a noble, kindly man- rare qualities in those days when white conquistadors were generally brutal taskmasters. In bringing this remarkable man to life, Felix Riesenberg vividly recreated Balboa's early days as a page boy in the household of a noble, his brilliant sword fights, his shipwrecks, battles and intrigues.

Condizione: Very good plus. First edition. First printing of a pivotal book in Rojankovsky's career, his first in English, and the first book published by the Domino Press, founded in Paris by American expats Esther Averill and Lila Stanley. Averill initially met Rojankovsky for a different design project, but when that fell through Rojankovsky suggested a children's book collaboration. Inspired in part by Rojankovsky's childhood love of James Fenimoore Cooper books, DANIEL BOONE was meant to be a lavish vision of the American West - but for that reason, American publishers considered it too expensive to print. Averill's response was to found the Domino Press in order to make the book a reality. Published in both French and English, this copy is the English issue. The book's success is credited in part with revitalizing the French children's book market, and played a role in Rojankovsky landing work in the famous Père Castor series. 14.5'' x 11.5''. Original quarter blue cloth, color pictorial paper boards. Illustrated by Rojankovsky with beautiful color lithographs throughout. [16] pages. A few shallow abrasions to boards, with light soiling primarily at margins. Interior clean with just a bit of toning to edges.
