They are enjoying the splendid weather and carrying on a nice conversation with each other. By all means, this is absolutely not a fitting description of what is happening during the MAD TEA-PARTY, a chapter of 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. Charles Lutwidge Dodgson is the author of both this book and 'Through the Looking-Glass - and what Alice found there', and is better known under the nom de plume Lewis Carroll. From now on, I am going to refer to him by this pseudonym.There are several points that make this particular tea-party so special. First and foremost, it has to be specified that the group of four gathered around the table are not all human beings. In fact, there is just Alice who fits into this category. The other three are Wonderland creatures: the Mad Hatter, the March Hare and the Dormouse. Having come to this realization, it is easier to understand why the latter are often behaving peculiarly by human standards.The fact that Lewis Carroll has come up with this fanciful, witty and ingenious chapter shows his great skills in making language an instrument that helps him not only to entertain and amuse, but also to cast doubt on what seems to be irrefutable and to make the reader ponder. Since, from the first time I read Carroll's successful novel, it was this particular chapter I liked most, I am very interested in learning more about it. First of all, I want to find out how the time in which Alice in Wonderland was written has influenced the story and its main character, Alice. As this little girl is not the only interesting character in the book, I am going to devote myself to the March Hare and the Mad Hatter afterwards. Not only do I want to take a closer look at their personalities, but I will also scrutinize their language when they are speaking to Alice. For this purpose, I want to refer to two of Paul Watzlawick's axioms. Last but not least, I am going to find out what is understood by the linguistic phenomenon of implicature and how this is connected with the MAD TEA-PARTY.

(Shakespeare, Arden 3.5.10) This exclamation of the Duke of Britain when he thinks of the English invader King Henry and his approaching army is a testimony of the cordial dislike of the French towards their English enemy. Within Henry V there are many more instances of the French being prejudiced against the English but also vice versa.However, the quotation above does not only contain a token of the French aversion against their opponent in the Hundred Years War - the setting of this history play by William Shakespeare - but also alludes to the fact that the two nations are somehow interwoven - a circumstance that will be dealt with later on.Within this paper on Shakespeare's Henry V, I will take a closer look at the ways in which the two nations describe themselves and are described by others, as well as at the textual evidence that sheds light on some of the national prejudices that the English and the French have against each other. Finally, I will search for those points in the play that indicate a sort of closeness between the two parties.Concerning the choice of words, it has to be mentioned that, for the sake of simplicity, the terms England and the corresponding adjective English shall be synonymous with the totality of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, the four peoples that are fighting together under King Henry against the French.

Allerdings sind Veränderungen im Schulwesen wie beispielsweise der Wandel von einer Input- zu einer Output-Orientierung mithilfe der Bildungsstandards nur dann zu bewerkstelligen, wenn Lehrer und Lehrerinnen diesem Konzept nicht ablehnend gegenüberstehen, sondern die Veränderung akzeptieren, sich darauf einlassen und ihrer Teil zur Umsetzung der Innovation aktiv beitragen. Output-Orientierung nennt sich das.¿ (Spiewak 2004)Bei diesem Zitat handelt es sich um einen Auszug aus dem Zeit-Artikel ¿Wandel ohne Vision¿ von Martin Spiewak. Der etwas zynische und anklagende Unterton lässt erahnen, dass der Autor eine eher negative Einstellung zu dem Thema Output-Orientierung hat. Letztere gibt es natürlich nicht ausschließlich in Bremen. Dieses Phänomen und damit in Verbindung stehende Veränderungen im deutschen Schulwesen betreffen eine große Anzahl von Menschen Tag für Tag. Wie der bereits erwähnte Journalist und auch der im Zitat angesprochene Schulleiter, hat jeder an diesem Prozess Beteiligte seine eigenen Gedanken und Einstellungen in Bezug auf dieses Thema. So ist es wahrscheinlich, dass sich ein gewisser Teil der unterrichtenden Lehrkräfte bedrängt, überfordert oder sogar attackiert von derartigen Innovationen fühlt. Allerdings sind Veränderungen im Schulwesen wie beispielsweise der Wandel von einer Input- zu einer Output-Orientierung mithilfe der Bildungsstandards nur dann zu bewerkstelligen, wenn Lehrer und Lehrerinnen diesem Konzept nicht ablehnend gegenüberstehen, sondern die Veränderung akzeptieren, sich darauf einlassen und ihrer Teil zur Umsetzung der Innovation aktiv beitragen. An diesem Punkt wird deutlich, dass die Lehrkräfte bei der Implementation einer Neuerung eine herausragende Rolle einnehmen und es deshalb überaus wichtig ist, ihre Einstellung zu der jeweiligen Angelegenheit zu kennen und gegebenenfalls einzugreifen, wenn sich Probleme anbahnen.Eine Möglichkeit dazu bietet das Modell der Stages of Concern. Hierbei handelt es sich um sieben Stufen, die von Lehrkräften im Laufe der Implementation einer Neuerung durchlaufen werden. Die Stages of Concern sind aus dem Grund, beispielsweise für die Schulleitung, ein gutes Instrument, weil anhand der Auswertung spezieller Fragebögen die Einstellungen und Bedenken der Lehrenden zu der infrage stehenden Innovation deutlich werden.
