Paperback. Condizione: Near Fine. First Edition. 50 pages; Clean and secure in original pictorial wrappers. OCLC 1156723927 Illustrated throughout, some in color. Includes works by Edvard Munch, Picasso, Rufino Tamayo, Paul Klee, Rolf Nesch, Ludvig Peter Karsten, Kandinsky, Egon Schiele, and Jakob Weidemann. Rolf Kristian Eckersberg Stenersen (1899 1978) was a Norwegian businessman, track and field athlete, non-fiction writer, essayist, novelist, playwright and biographer. He was also a serious art collector. He was a friend of painter Edvard Munch from the 1920s, came to be Munch's financial advisor. He was also a collector of his art work, and had one of the largest private collections of Munch's works. In 1926 he organized an exhibition of his art collection, which centered around works by Munch and Ludvig Peter Karsten. He wrote essays on artists such as Edvard Munch, Erik Harry Johannessen, Jakob Weidemann and Paul Klee. He donated his collection of Norwegian art to the municipality of Aker in 1936. From 1994 the collection has been on display in the Stenersen Museum in Oslo.

This book presents a portrait that is so intimate, refreshingly honest and revealing that Edvard Munch, (taciturn, illusive, legendary), emerges from the pages a living human being. Among the privileged few who gained the great Norwegian artistÆs confidence, only Stenersen could have written such a book, having possessed the two essential prerequisites for such an undertaking: a personal and psychological insight into the Munch mystique, and a literary style admirably suited for MunchÆs own pointed, incisive and bluntly informal mode of expression. This book has been widely acclaimed by critics, who have called it ôunique. nearly perfect. entertaining. incomparable.ö, English, Year1994, Illust. B/W, Illust. Color21, ISBN 8270460575, Code 2075.
