Remans Ray(mond) (Geboren te Zonhoven op 12-09-1926) Hij volgde een opleiding aan de Stedelijke Academie voor Beeldende Kunst te Hasselt en cursussen o.a. aan de zomera…cademie te Salzburg. Lid van Kunstkring Pro Arte. Startte samen met Walter Vilain het atelier voor grafiek: Atelier Remans-Vilain (geopend in 1965). Maakte ook deel uit van de groep Helikon waar hij de plaats innam van Lucienne Porta die al vrij snel uit de groep verdween. Naast kunstschilder maakt hij aquarellen, tekeningen, pastels enz. met vooral landschappen, zeezichten, stillevens en naakten als onderwerp. Sinds de jaren 80 houdt hij zich ook bezig met composities, koperen en bronzen beelden. Hij evolueert in deze periode ook naar het abstracte. Maakt de laatste jaren ook veel beeldhouwwerk. Behaalde in '56 de Bekroningsprijs voor Limburgse Jongeren. Individuele tentoonstellingen volgden vanaf 1958 o.a. in zijn kunstgalerij Sonuwe (geopend in '76) en regelmatig in het Cultureel Centrum Termolen te Zonhoven. Vermelden wij nog in 1995 de tentoonstelling "40 jaar kunstenaarschap" in het "Stedelijk Museum Stellingwerff-Waerdenhof" te Hasselt. In 2001 volgde nog een "Jubileumtentoonstelling" ten huize Ray Remans en de uitgave van "De Essentie van verf en metaal". 0 g.

Henricus Jonghen reconstrueert de geschiedenis van de Mariadevotie in Hasselt vanaf de middeleeuwen en onderzoekt de oorsprong en verspreiding van de verering rond het Virga Jesse-beeld. Hij beschrijft uitvoerig de stichting van de Onze-Lieve-Vrouwekapel, de liturgische praktijken, de jaarlijkse processies en de werking van de broederschap van de Heilige Maria. Daarbij schenkt hij bijzondere aandacht aan de rol van de franciscanen in de bevordering van de Mariacultus en aan de discussie rond de onbevlekte ontvangenis van Maria binnen de contrareformatorische context van de zeventiende eeuw. Het werk bevat daarnaast talrijke beschrijvingen van wonderverhalen, miraculeuze genezingen en votiefpraktijken die verbonden waren met de Hasseltse bedevaart traditie.
