The poems were reprinted just after the second world war, again under the counter, since when, a combination of snooty critics and cowardly publishers have managed to keep the work very far underground in France and virtually unknown in England and America'. The collection was rescued by Ron Padgett from obscurity and published in the French in 'C' magazine from the original edition; 'it is here reproduced for the first time in booklet form together with the excellent translation into english [sic] and prefaced by Padgett's researches into the work.' Apollinaire's text is in parallel French and English, translated by Chris and George Tysh; the translation was made in response to a competition held in 'C', and first appeared in 'Adventures in Poetry'. Very Good with just mild signs of wear, the green of the wrappers a touch faded at the spine (not affecting legibility), a few minor marks outwardly, two facing pages with a small, unobtrusive patch of soiling towards the tail edge.
Paperback. Condizione: New. In shrink wrap. Looks like an interesting title!
