Prima edizione
Stapled Wraps. Condizione: Good. "Cindy" (Smith) (cover); Lin Carter, Neil Austin, Roy Hunt, Dan Adkins, Dave Jenrette (illustratore). First Edition. New York: Ronald L. Smith, 1956. First edition. January, 1956 / Issue number 13 under the name Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Science Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction. ) Ron Smith became the Editor/Publisher with the November, 1954 issue, which was also the first under this name. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 46 pp. Just Good; covers are separated from the textblock; otherwise, this would be a Near Fine copy with just some angular age toning at the cover. This February / 1956 issue was in the heyday of contributors and production/editing values for the series. Plenty inside to enjoy; there is fanzine art of the highest order (ably managed by Art Editor Cindy Smith): Cindy's wrap-raround cover art honors the predicament of an author; also, outstanding interior fanzine art herein by Cindy, Lin Carter, Neil Austin, Roy Hunt, Dan Adkins, and Dave Jenrette. A rare piece of short fiction, "Manunkind" by David R. Bunch leads off; following ar articles by Ron Smith ("Think"), Randall Garrett and Lin Carter ("Masters of the Metropolis"), Kenneth Ford ("Boundaries in the Brain-Pan") and Ken Beale ("Spaceships and Celluloid"), as well as Bob Tucker's semi-regular Science Fiction News Letter. The heart of the publication, the book reviews, are here handled by Carter, Garrett, Ford, Bill Edgerton, Dave Mason, and Robert "Bob" Silverberg: And there are, of course - the creative ads. Amazing stuff, all around, from the history of Sci-Fiorth.kind of 'wow', when one reflects on it. Strictly for the collector. Please do review scans. l-pr1.

Stapled Wraps. Condizione: Near Fine. Morris Scott Dollens, Neil Austin, Lin Carter, Cindy, Pat Patterson, and Dan Adkins (illustratore). First Edition. New York: Ronald L. Smith, 1956. The May, 1956 issue (Inside number 15, whole number 49), the tenth anniversary edition, of Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser. Previous names: Fantasy Advertiser, then Science Fiction Advertiser. Octavo, stapled wraps, 38 pp. + covers. About Near Fine, showing only perimeter sunning (see scan). In addition to Dollens' cover art, there are interior illustrations by Neil Austin, Lin Carter, "Cindy", Pat Patterson, and Dan Adkins. Smith's memorable science fiction fanzine, originated by Norman "Gus" Willmorth under the earlier names and edited by him through November 1949, was long a compendium of SF book reviews and ads, and still is here; but, by this time, there were also non-fiction contributions by some of the better-known names in Sci-fi, and the page count was a bit higher. Herein, in addition to the standard fare, are "SFA: The First Ten Years", Robert Silverberg's detailed history of this fanzine; "H.P. Lovecraft: The Books", the second part (of 3) of Lin Carter's study of books mentioned by H.P. Lovecraft in his works; "Worst Foot Forward" by Robert Bloch,a criticism of the adverse effect (a "crash" in sci-fi, retrospectively non-existent, really) he then felt that bandwagon-ism had recently had on Science Fiction; and a collector-valuable historical chart of the fanzine, by issue and editor. Stapled Wraps. Condizione: Near Fine. Alan Hunter, Cindy (Smith), Dan Adkins (illustratore). First Edition. New York: Ronald L. Smith, 1954. First edition. March, 1957 / Issue number 51 under the name Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Science Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction). Ron Smith had been editing the publication for about 2 1/2 years by the appearance of this issue. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 38 pp. While the contents are in near fine condition - just age-toned - and firmly bound - the rather battered covers assigns a Good grade only to this copy. See scans. Interestingly, to the best of my research efforts this was the first and only nude-covers (front and back) issue, the honors being done by Alan Hunter. Interior art contributions are by Cindy (Smith) and future serious pro Dan Adkins. Articles and reviews are by the editor and E.E. Smith, L. Sprague de Camp, John W. Campbell, Jr., Lin Carter, and Dave Foley. Ads and other bits of interest, as well, of course. An extraordinarily rare issue. For the collector. Please review scans. l-pr1.

Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. Henry Richard van Dongen (cover); Jack Gaughan, Cindy (Smith), Roy Hunt, Marvin Bryer, Dan Adkins (illustratore). First Edition. New York: Ronald L. Smith, 1956. First edition. September, 1956, whole number 50, issue number 16 under the name "Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser" (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Science Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction.) Ron Smith became the Editor/Publisher with the November, 1954 issue, which was also the first under this name. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, a whopping 72 pp. - thick, for this fanzine. Near Fine. Small chip top right front and another middle left back (see scans), and that's about it. Not much toning to the contents at all; bright, tight and nearly flawless. This September of 1956 issue is certainly one of the best produced in the entire sequence; Ron Smith was really feeling his oats at this time. Featured are "Weird Tales in Retrospect" by August Derleth, and part 3 of Lin Carter's astonishingly intensive research into the of actual books mentioned by H.P. Lovecraft in his stories. Bless him for the energy he spent. A plethora of great illustrations grace this issue, perhaps more than any other issue (of this or any sci-fi genre fanzine of the era, one would guess): H.R. Van Dongen's cover is joined by a bunch of Jack Gaughan illustrations, plus some by each of Dan Adkins, Cindy (Smith), and Marvin Bryer, plus cartoon illustrations by "Miller" and Dave Jenrette - all managed by Art Director Cindy Smith. Other articles include "Randall Garrett's Memo to E.A. Robinson", Larry T. Shaw's "The Baker Murder Case", Lin Carter's poem "The Return of the Fairies", Edmond Hamilton's "Time Traveling in Ohio", a Jonathan Hoag poem reprint, courtesy of George Wetzel, "To the Grand Canyon of the Ohio", William F. Nolan's "Dark Souls in Jeopardy" (a short modernistic three-act play), Garth Bentley's "Complaint of the EM", and illustrated humor by Dave Jenrette, "People to Avoid at a Convention", as a tri-fold foldout. Also, of course, the original meat of the fanzine, the book reviews, here handled mostly by Carter, Robert Silverberg, and Charles Freudenthal. Even some of the seemingly-now-out-of-date book ad from sellers. Pretty much the peak of fanzine-ism. Collector gold, and scarce as hen's teeth. Please review scans. l-pr1.

Stapled Wraps. Condizione: Very Good. Pat Patterson (cover); Alan Hunter, Lin Carter, Frank Jonbrian, Dan Adkins, Jack Wilson, and Dave Jenrette (illustratore). First Edition. New York: Ronald L. Smith, 1956. First edition. March, 1956, issue number 14 under the name "Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser" (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Science Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction.) Ron Smith became the Editor/Publisher with the November, 1954 issue, which was also the first under this name. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 42 pp. Near Fine. Some toning to cover margins, and one small nick at back cover (see scans); otherwise bright, tight and flawless. This March of 1956 issue is certainly one of the best produced in the entire sequence, and features a rarely-published reprint (with Permission from Arkham House) H.P. Lovecraft's July, 1919 philosophical reflection in The National Amateur, "Idealism and Materialism" (A Reflection), in which he assesses those concepts as opposites as light and dark in the universe, and as creations of mankind which will perish when we humans do. Plenty more inside, however. There is fanzine art of the highest order (ably managed by Art Editor Cindy Smith): Pat Patterson's wrap-around cover alien, and outstanding interior art by Alan Hunter, Lin Carter, Frank Jonbrian, Dan Adkins, Jack Wilson, and Dave Jenrette. Besides Lovecraft's piece, there are articles by John Brunner (Rusty Chains), Robert Bloch (Definitions), Randall Garrett (The Tale of Two Pretties) Lin Carter (H.P. Lovecraft: The Books - part one of a series in which Carter lays out in great detail the actual books mentioned by Lovecraft in his stories) and of course the meat of the fanzine, the book reviews, here handled by Carter, Garrett, Robert Silverberg, Charles Freudenthal, Dave Mason, Bill Edgerton, and Margaret Walcutt. And, of course - the creative ads. Amazing stuff, all around, from the history of Sci-Fi.'wow', when one reflects on it. Collector piece. See scans. l-pr1.
